Eyeliner Based on Your Eye Shape; Made Easy !

Eyeliner is an art all by itself. You can completely ruin a look if you don’t get it right. But how do you get it right every time? Eyes are meant to be the window to our souls, so let’s do them justice! Also what are some of the best eyeliners? It’s all here!

How many of us started applying our eyeliner like it’s a huge sharpie. A thick line just across our eye, nothing more about it. Then, you realise it’s meant to compliment your eye shape and give your eye that extra va va voom. An eye lift. But why can’t we ever get it right?

It’s all about your eye shape. Everyone’s individual eye shape is different. Just because one girl is rocking a killer eye flick, doesn’t mean it would look the same on you or even suit you. Some of us have spacious eyelids so it’s like playtime. You can try many looks and most of them will suit you as you have the space to work with. It’s like having a plane canvas. Other eye shapes like downturned, hooded, monolids are a lot more tricky. You have to create a shape to suit you. And the easiest way to find that, is by looking at people with the same kind of eye shape you have. And trying out what suits them. As 90% of the time that same style will suit you too!

Hooded Eyes:

Apparently these eyes are some of the most seductive, but it’s a chore working out how to line them. Because you always have to remember when you open your eyes, your eyelid space will hardly be visible. Especially with eyeliner on. So keep it to a minimal, a lovely thinner line, maybe thickening at the edge and out if that suits you, is much more appealing and complimentary to your eyes. Some people find tight-lining only is best, but I love my eyeliner so, it really depends how hooded your eyes are!

Monolid Eyes:

You might find yourself asking, what is a monolid?! I know I did! Long story short, it’s basically when you don’t have a crease. It’s a single eyelid instead of a double one. So with this eye-shape its definitely a go big or go home moment. Thicken the line, because you need a bold moment to make any kind of impact. A thin line would just disappear and not really have much/any effect.

Round Eyes:

There’s an easy test to see if you have round eyes. Simply look in the mirror, and if you can see your entire iris, (thin circular structure in the eye, surrounding your pupils) then today’s your lucky day. You have wide eyes and look awake effortlessly. Mila Kunis is an example. With this eyeshape, you want to elongate the eye. Definitely not make it look even more round, you need no help in that department *sarcastic smile emoji*. Concentrate on the outer corners and emphasising attention to there. One of the best looks for you is the ‘cat eyes’. You just want to give the illusion that your eyes are slightly more closed, and focusing your attention mainly on your outer corners will give that effect.

Almond Eyes:

If you have almond eyes then well, you’ve basically won the lottery. More or less, any eyeliner shape will suit you. A medal should come free with every eyeliner you buy! The most simple and well known eye look is the thinner on the inner corner and thicker on the outer. You can flick, smudge do whatever you like, and it will still compliment your eye shape!

Downturned Eyes:

These eyes are surprisingly quite common. They are usually almond eyes with a slight downward turn. Some of the most desirable women in the world have this eye shape like Marilyn Monroe and Katy Perry. Applying eyeliner to this eyeshape is quite simple, you want to try and uplift the eye by focusing attention on the outer corner. A thicker line on the towards the end of your line will in so many words, turn that frown upside down!

Half way point, let’s have a breather and see what are some of the best eyeliners out there?

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner: It’s truly amazing. The liner is buttery, easily glides on your skin. But it won’t budge, it’s waterproof so you can literally do anything and this will stay on!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil: It’s what it says on the tin. Stays on for 24 hours, it never fails me. And it glides on, no tugging in sight. Shade ‘Perversion’ is a true black which I love and sometimes I go for a brown. This pencil comes in over 50 shades so there’s no limit!

Close-Set Eyes:

With this you’ll want to create space between them so make them look further apart. From the mid section of your eye-line to the ends, you’ll want to apply eyeliner to your upper and bottom eyelid. And what really helps is if you use a lighter coloured eyeliner towards the start to middle of your eyelines. To help the illusion lining your inner line (tight-lining) will probably give you the reverse outcome you want so if you really want an inner liner moment, choose a nude/white colour. It really opens the eyes and awakens you from within-effect. Ps tight-lining is when you line the inner rims of your eye-line.

Wide-Set Eyes:

Do the complete opposite as above!

Protruding Eyes:

This kind of shaped eye, you’ll need to cheat a little. Extend you eyeliner beyond your outer corners of your eye and on your eyelid itself. Apply a thicker line towards the outer half of your eyeliner, and a very thin line on the rest of your upper eye line. A cheeky tip is to even go a little higher than your natural eye line towards the inner corner. To give the illusion that your eyeliner is more straight!

Small Eyes:

The rule you should always stand by. Light shadows are your best friend in making your eyes look wider and more awake. Dark shadows with tons of eyeliner draws attention to the small shape of your eye, that you probably don’t want to focus on. So my one main tip would be, to use a nude/white liner in your inner bottom lash line. Keep black liner to a minimal!

Asymmetrical Eyes:

If one eye is slightly larger than the other, you’ll want to even them out. A corrective method is best. Use a black or brown liner on the lash line, from the inner corner to the outer, increasing the width only slightly on the uneven eye, to make your eyes look more equal and awake.
