Holiday To Paris – The Louvre !

The Louvre is one of Paris’s main attractions, so what could possibly happen when I went?

Our plan was to visit the Louvre early afternoon, then go for dinner afterwards since it was a special occasion. Instead of going to the Louvre then making our way back to the hotel (which is quite far away), then back out for dinner, it’s just too much travelling and to be honest extra expense, which isn’t needed!

So I wake up at 09:00, mainly so I can relax having breakfast and getting ready. I really don’t like rushing around! So along with my partner, we make our way downstairs. Usually I’d just have egg soldiers since I have a severe nut allergy so all the open food isn’t really nut-allergy friendly. But on that day, everyone kept eating out all the eggs! You had to boil them yourself in a machine, but it was always full that morning. Plus there was no eggs, even if the machine was becoming available! So my mindset was already negative after not being able to have breakfast, whilst i’m sitting across from my partner stuffing his face with croissants! I just wanted to go back up to bed.

But no, I go back to my room, shower and everything and apply my warpaint. Since we’d be going out for dinner afterwards, I have to look a bit glam. We make our way to the Louvre, the weather forecast says its supposed to rain heavily all day, but silly me I decided to wear wedges. We arrive at the Louvre, the uber driver parks pretty far away, but I still just try to stay positive. So far everything has gone against me today so what more could possibly happen? P.S. He supposedly was to plan all the places we visited. Keep that in mind.

We walk towards the entrance, and notice there’s hardly anyone in the queue. There’s no one who works at the Louvre around either, there’s just people outside the Louvre obviously taking photos. We notice a sign saying, you must purchase your tickets online. He goes on the website and says there are no tickets available for the next WEEK. He then proceeds to say, I checked this yesterday and the tickets were sold out. So I thought they’d have tickets on the door as usual.

This is how I felt. My dog knows me so well

You should’ve seen my face. Was I told that he already checked prior to going and they were sold out? No. He’s already been to the Louvre so I thought I’m in safe hands. Instead we’re left on the Louvre property outside whilst the clouds overhead are a dark charcoal grey, very almost black. Then he lastly says “well we can take photos making out like we’ve been inside the Louvre, no one would know the difference”. I reply “I DO”. Never mind looking like complete idiots. The thought of wanting to throw him over the Louvre pyramid crossed my mind.

I spent time on my hair and makeup whilst on an empty stomach and all this unfolding on an empty stomach, underneath the darkest of clouds you can imagine how annoyed I was.

So here are photos of me outside the Louvre. Since that’s the furthest I ever got to going in!

This place was inside the Louvre’s shopping centre. It was so beautiful. A whole wall like this!

Have you ever been to the Louvre? What would you have done in my position? Has anything like this happened to you when you’re trying to visit main attractions? Comment below!!

    1. I’ve heard so much about it, especially the famous Mona Lisa! Don’t be sorry! Hopefully they’ll be a next time.😊

  1. we went to Paris last year, and skipped the louvre as well, just taking pictures outside like you did. I’ve heard it’s crowded inside, so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

    1. Really? Yay at least I’m not the only one😂. Oh really is it crowded inside? I didn’t know that at all, maybe I didn’t miss out on too much! Thankyouu for reading and commenting Jim!😊

  2. Oh I hope you have a better time next time.
I remember i went to a underground mall once it was full of tourist and hot, I was very hungry and annoyed that people were rude, not to mention not a very nice smell. I was so upset because I wanted to shop but people were taking and buying everything. And there was no food in the mall that didn’t help my mood either.

  3. Wow, I’m sorry that happened ☹☹. That really blows. Atleast you look beautiful. I went to the Louvre in March. It was quite fascinating. I purchased our tickets weeks in advance on Viator. I would’ve been livid but it wouldn’t have solved anything. However taking pictures in front of it is pretty cool

    1. Don’t apologise! At least I can laugh about it now😂 aww thankyouu! You’re right, being annoyed doesn’t solve anything! Viator, oh really I’ve never heard of that site, I’ll definitely check it out😊

i have never been to europe but since i am a seasoned traveler, i usually check on things even if someone else is supposed to.
your partner is not very nice and should have said something long before you going there and if he had known about tickets to be bought well before hand, then they should have been bought.
your partner doesnt seem to care about you. 😦
well at least you now know and if traveling again to paris, you will know about things better.
    at least you looked nice.

  6. I read your article and you made me laugh with your amusing descriptions. You look lovely in the photos. You can go back another time to Paris just for the Louvre. I visited it 20 times when I lived in Paris because I wanted to see absolutely everything. And to do that it took 20 visits of several hours each! So you can cheer up that in a single visit you wouldn’t have since much anyway. So smile!

    1. Haha I’m glad! Aww thankyouu. You’re right I’m sure there’ll be a next time. You lived in Paris? Wow you’re so lucky! Haha I imagine you visited the Louvre all the time I’ve heard there’s so much to see it’s almost impossible to see it all. Wow 20 times that’s a lot of Louvre’in!😂 I imagine you’ve seen so many timeless pieces. You’re so right! A few hours wouldn’t have been anywhere near enough. Thankyouu!😊😁

      1. Yes it took me 20 visit 4 hours each visit to see all. I was very motivated. Paris is beautiful as a tourist, but living there is different than being a tourist. I am happy you visited that beautiful city. Thank you for your beautiful photos of you. ❤️

  7. “What would you have done in my position?”

Have no idea, actually, though you handled it well, and managed to salvage what otherwise would’ve been an awful experience. There must’ve been a moment (or seven, or 1,762) when you told yourself this really can’t be happening; it must be a particularly wicked nightmare! “Come on, enough already. Wake up!”

Please tell me you still made it to dinner afterwards, and that is was wonderfully evocative.

    1. Haha I like to think I handled it well! I honestly thought what the hell and why wouldn’t you tell me the day before when you checked?!😂 I would’ve liked to have thought this was a nightmare but in that moment I knew well and truly this was reality😒😂😩.
I fortunately did make it to dinner! At least something happened😂.
Thankyouu! So glad you enjoyed this post😊😁

  8. I’m in charge of planning things, so no, this wouldn’t have happened. I visited the Louvre many years ago and frankly you need more than a day to see everything. It’s not my favourite museum in Paris but there’s so much to see and do this really shouldn’t have spoilt your day too much.
PS to really *see* Paris, you need to pound its pavements, forget Uber.

    1. After this experience I’m definitely in charge of planning everything, even things which don’t need planning! I’ve heard there’s so much to see in the Louvre, you need at least a couple of weeks. Which is a lot!
Oh really it’s not your favourite? That’s so interesting I wonder why?
You’re right, Uber takes the adventure out of a trip (whilst taking your money)😂

      1. I prefer museums where you can see the exhibits in a day. Museums such as The Louvre, The Met, British Museum need to be viewed in chunks because there’s so much to see.

      2. I completely get where you’re coming from. It’s almost like you need a holiday for the Louvre (or the museums that you stated above) alone😂. You’ll probably need a holiday after it too seeing so much inside of one building!

  9. I was there last week. The line, even the on-line line was out to kazoo. We skipped it. But the louvre carousel area was really nice. Such an impressive city. Back home already. Tired of airlines and tired of crowds of tourists.

    1. Ohh really? I bet the Louvre was incredible. The city is phenomenal you’re right! There are many queues and crowds for everything, you don’t have space to breathe!

  10. Agreed I’ve visited the Louvre and it was a wonderful experience (pretty certain we bought tickets on the day !) . But there is always next time, not that you need an excuse to go back there but now you have one 😉

  11. Greetings Miss Antonia, I was directed to your site from Resa’s site, GraffitiLux where you liked a comment I made and I wanted to say thanks. I am sure the day wasn’t a total loss as there is so much beauty in Paris (I haven’t been but I have a very good friend who lives in France and visits Paris often!) so hopefully you could enjoy the scenery at least. And it may not be much consolation for not entering the Louvre but I think you looked stunning if I may say so.

    1. Ahahaha I know! She’s 10 years old but still acts like a puppy😂. Ahaha aww thankyouu! You’re too kind! I’m definitely going to do a tutorial about how I style my hair😊. Thankyouu so much for reading and commenting! Glad you enjoyed this post😃😃

  13. Not much can or could be done. Happened to me a coupla times in other expos. The French are shifting increasingly to on-line reservations, saves personnel costs, without offering options. And the Louvre is so packed, one may have to make reservations days or weeks before. You will have to back to Paris.
Anyway, you looked very glam on your photos. 🙂
    Cheers

  14. Oooh I can’t do anything on an empty stomach. No breakfast! I would not have looked half as serene as you look!
I visited the Louvre with the school many many years ago… they marched us all in to look at the Mona Lisa for one minute and then marched us out again!
Maybe we should return for a more leisurely visit together sometime 🤣 😘

    1. Hahaha trust me I don’t wanna do anything on an empty stomach! It’s sooo hard going to foreign countries with a severe nut allergy because it means you have to be overly picky as to what to eat, as I definitely don’t wanna end up in hospital! Hahaha I tried to put on a happy face😂.
Ohhh really? That must’ve been so annoying just going in there for such a short amount of time! You definitely need time to admire the art and embrace the place you’re in!
      Must return to Paris!
Thankyouu so much for reading and sharing such a great insight!
      Have a lovely day😊
