The BEST (And Cheapest) Drugstore Setting Powder!

Setting powder is essential in the world of makeup today, and this drugstore product is one of the best!

RCMA No-Colour Powder

Any beauty lover (especially millennials) will know how essential a good setting powder is. The days of always having to go to the bathroom to ‘powder your nose’ every so often are over! Especially anyone who loves a ‘cake face’ this is the icing on top of the cake. The best setting powders not only keep your makeup in place all day/night, but they work to control oil, have no and I mean NO flashback and blur imperfections. Years ago, the ‘RCMA No-Colour Powder’ started making headlines for their incredible, innovative, product. Not only is it amazing but the price point of £12/$12 for 30g/3oz, it’s almost too good to be true! While, many in the beauty industry love it, it’s still not well known to many. The majority of setting powders cost between £30-£40/dollars, for just one ounce! So you can see you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck! Here’s everything you need to know!

What it is: A no-colour setting powder that gives you a soft focus finish. The formula was created by RCMA (The Research Council of Makeup Artists) over 50 years ago, for use by professional makeup artists in Hollywood. The RCMA powder is designed to look natural and perform like a luxury powder so that on-screen actors would always look flawless.

What it does: Sets makeup immaculately, for extra-long wear. It has no pigment as the name entails, so it won’t alter the colour of your foundation. Because its colourless, it works for all skin tones; from very fair to very deep.

What I liked: The powder is ultra fine, mattifying and long lasting, it will keep your makeup locked down all day! When you apply this you’ll see that it instantly gives you a smooth finish. It almost acts like a filter as it gives your skin that airbrushed appearance we all crave! You can apply this with a brush or damp makeup sponge. It’s perfect for baking, and it gives NO flashback.

What I didn’t like: The packaging isn’t the most convenient as the interior lid has large holes, which means when you try and pour the the desired amount out, it spills out a lot. The packaging makes it virtually impossible to put the excess powder back in. It also doesn’t have a lid you can pour the loose powder onto which can be a bit irritating if you’re applying makeup either in a rush or if you’re on the go! The packaging is quite basic, it resembles a spice pot/container, but since it’s such an amazing formula and powder, you could always put the contents in another container better suited for you, like an old setting powder pot. Personally, I think most people including myself would rather use a great product that looks silky smooth on skin, rather than a great looking packaging with product that is lacking.

Final Thoughts: This RCMA product is an amazing setting powder, almost like a mixture of the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, and the Ben Nye’s Banana Powder. Ben Nye’s range has colour and feels more powdery, but the way it keeps makeup matte all day is very similar. Like the Laura Mercier powder, this adds no texture to the skin, and smooths out your complexion. So you really are getting the best of both worlds!
