Quarantine Binge-Worthy Shows; Unpopular Opinions

It feels like we’ve been in quarantine since the beginning of time, what better way to get through it than binge-watching some great tv?

Since quarantine began, this may seem hard to believe, but I haven’t binge-watched anything.

Yes I’m weird, yes I’m a freak, of all the times to pick on me, now’s your chance, as I do feel like an outsider. Yes, yes, I’m a quarantined outsider, very funny, but if that’s the best you’ve got, that’s slightly worrying!

But seriously, what tv shows are there that are binge-worthy?!

Now, I’ve already seen love is blind a few months ago – if you haven’t seen that, stop what you’re doing. If you thought Love Island or The Bachelor was addictive/silly, think again. Plus this show is much much better and more silly than the rest combined, so thank me later when you’ve messed up your sleep routine due to watching the episodes back to back. Don’t worry, the majority of the world was in your shoes ages ago, so it’s a normal response to the greatness of the show. But back to the problem at hand!

I feel like there’s not a bunch of shows worth binge-watching around. I tried watching a few episodes of Killing Eve, but I couldn’t get into the show at all. I was trying to understand why everyone was and is raving about it, but it left me displeased. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance. I’ve seen every episode of My Wife and Kids, over and over again, because that show is just incredible! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, not so much as I don’t find it as funny? I’m probably the only one in the whole of mankind to have that opinion! And also, Friends. I’ve tried. And I’ve tried. But I don’t find it that funny! I giggle here and there, but its not a laugh so much I hurt laugh, Plus I can get through an episode without laughing at all! It just isn’t for me, I know, I’m crazy!

So if I watch any tv at all it’s the usual Eastenders, Coronation Street and Neighbours. But they’re hardly binge-watching shows, even though I could watch them back to back, they’re just my normal shows. One phenomenal show I’ve discovered and can watch back to back is…

Unsolved Mysteries. I never thought a show could be made especially for my viewing before I found this show. It’s remarkable, but definitely isn’t for everyone. I love and I mean LOVE documentaries, from a very young age I always used to be captivated by true stories. I go out of my way to read cases on the FBI website and if I could know every possible case in history, I would. Trust me, I know a lot! Unsolved Mysteries is basically a round-up of cases which have been you guessed it. Unsolved. So it can be anything from sci-fi, faith healing, to true crime, or to even searching for a long lost love/relative. The list goes on…

Mind Blown Gif

And what makes this show different from any others around, is that they get around 4 cases or so in each episode. As many of the other documentaries I watch, are around one case, so it goes into intricate detail, but some people have short attention spams and can’t watch a full hour of it let’s say. But unsolved mysteries, keeps even viewers who aren’t the most interested in documentaries or true stories, gripped. Plus, most importantly, it gets many unsolved cases out there in the public eye again, which is vital to cases having more of a chance to be heard and getting solved, rather than endless cases being left on a shelves gathering dust. If everyone viewed that show, there’d be many less people on the run etc. Why did unsolved mysteries end?!

But back to my predicament, that’s all I’ve discovered. And even though it’s such a great show, sometimes I’m in a light hearted mood and am looking for a well rounded show to just relax and become addicted to. Drama’s, thrillers, even documentaries I’m all into, but maybe I have that genre covered!

What show’s are you binge-watching? If you had to say what the best show ever is, what would it be? From my tv choices above, what shows would you highly recommend to me?! Do you watch any of the shows mentioned? Comment below!

  1. I agree with you 100% on Friends. I just don’t get why it was so popular. It’s one of those change-the-channel-instantly shows when I see it on TV. HBO had a documentary series about six months ago called McMillions that was fascinating. If you don’t have HBO, I’m sure you can still find it online somewhere.

    1. I really don’t understand it either! *Sorry for any friends fans reading this*.
I do think it was very overrated, and even the laugh track in the background goes off in moments that really aren’t funny. Or maybe I just don’t understand the humour!😂🤔
McMillions, ooh I don’t think I’ve heard of that one but I’ve just googled it and it seems so interesting!
I’ll be on the lookout for that, as I’m unsure if they have HBO here😩.
      Thankyouu for the recommendation!😁🍿

      1. The thing with Friends for me is that once I spotted that all of the humor is at the expense of one of the characters I realized it wasn’t actually that funny.

      2. Oooh really? And if that happened in a real friendship circle, would that be healthy? I can hardly imagine so! I don’t think I’ve ever watched it long enough to realise😂😩😩.
Next time I catch it on a channel, I’m gonna look out for it!👀

    1. Ohhh, I’ve heard of this. Is it like rainmain? But in the Lake District? I’ll keep my eyes peeled for it!
      Thankyouu for the recommendation!😁😊

    1. Oooh that’s the second recommendation for McMillions! I’ll definitely have to watch it to see if it lives up to the hype haha!😂 Thankyouu so much for the recommendation!!🤗🤗

  2. I don’t really just sit and binge watch anything, but it’s always on something or other. We do watch Friends all the time and like it a lot.
I don’t like many new shows at all. My favorite series ones from the past are – Roswell, Northern Exposure, and Lost. Those I could watch from beginning to end all over again. 🙂

    1. I’m not usually a binge-watcher, if anything I can’t stand people who binge-watch and expect me to watch different episodes of the same show for hours on end! 😂😂
But since being in quarantine, that part of my brain has been switched on and now I can get through quite a few episodes at a time!
Ooh really?! I’ve never heard of those shoes! I wonder if they have them here in the UK🤔 I must check!
Thankyouu so much for the recommendation and so sorry for the late reply!🤗💓💓

  3. Steven Universe is always worth a binge. The Great was worth a few laughs (and a couple of tears too), I just wish there were more seasons of it available. The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel is fanfreakingtastic too (I even quote it in my thesis).

    1. Oooh I really haven’t heard of the first two I’ll have to google them! I think I’ve heard of the latter but I don’t have a clue what it’s about so that’s another I’ll have to google!😂😂 I thought I was a tv critic before all these shows I hadn’t heard of. Just when I thought I knew many shows, I probably only know 2%😂😂.
Thankyouu so much for the recommendation and so sorry for the late reply!🤗💓💓

  4. Antonia, what haven’t I binge watched at times?

“The Sopranos” has waylaid me once or twice before, though there are far too many episodes to take in all of them in one sitting, no matter how decadent.

Something I can consume, and have done so, in one marathon session? A&E’s “Nero Wolfe Mysteries.” Snappy dialogue, witty banter and succulent fashions. Everything to love. All the more reason it’s scandalous (an outrage!) the series was canceled after just two seasons. (or, “series,” as you call them in the UK.) Still, makes for a pretty-darn-perfect sixteen or eighteen hours of rapture.

Oh, and my inner foodie won’t let me go until I mention “Iron Chef” – as long as it’s the original version aired in Japan!

    1. I’ve heard of the sopranos and might have quickly switched it over as a bad habit of mine. I don’t give shows a chance sometimes😂. I must check what it’s about as I’ve heard “The Sopranos” quite a lot so it must be good!
Oooh I’ve never heard of the latter two, but I’m a sucker for a good food show, I’m always viewing the foodie channels in the UK but I don’t think I’ve come across Iron Chef.
      I must find it somewhere!
Thankyouu so much for the recommendations and so sorry for the late reply!🤗

      1. Glad you’re interested, Antonia! If you look up all three on YouTube, it’d give you an idea if you’d be interested in the programs.

If/when you sample “Iron Chef,” make sure it’s the original, Japanese, version. There’s an American remake that isn’t nearly as good as is the original. If you find something in Japanese, but dubbed into English, you’re on the right track!

      2. Ooooh sounds amazing, very jealous!😭 Funnily enough I don’t really have anything adventurous planned because even going to restaurants you have to have your mask on every minute apart from actually eating, so it’s hardly enjoyable!😂😃

  6. I agree with you on Friends. I remember it when it was still on network TV, and even then I was lukewarm on it. The show hasn’t aged well, in my opinion. But then I was more of a Drew Carey fan (wish I could find episodes of that show!)

I’m not a binger either. I did binge a little on What’s New Scooby Doo. Also enjoyed the first season of Dead to Me, and watching Space Force. The one show I absolutely binged on for a time was Lucha Underground, at least before it got taken off of Netflix.

    1. I totally agree with you, I’d say friends isn’t the type of show that’s timeless. It probably only fit the generation the show was released to, but it’s funny how many are still fans!
Same, I’m not a binger usually, but in quarantine, I think everything’s been turned on it’s head!😂
Oooh I’m gonna try and see how many I can find to watch, I hate it when Netflix takes shows off prematurely, or maybe I’m just late to the party!😂😂
Thankyouu so much for the recommendations and so sorry for the late reply!🤗

  7. Humor has to do with where and when you were raised, to some extent. I went away for over a decade to parts of the world that had little or no TV. When I came back I found that adverts in my birth culture, intended to be funny were meaningless and strange.
Weirdly, I was in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I laughed. Not sure why.
Most American TV bored me to tears. Still does. Particularly Friends.
Just watched the New Zealand crime show ‘Brokenwood’; all 6 seasons. Funny interesting and bits of NZ culture. I can recommend it.
    Be well.

  8. I watch very little television and am not even connected to cable so the thought of binge-watching never crossed my mind. I do get Netflix and one of my favorite shows there is “The Good Witch” as I’d like to be just like her.

    1. Oooh wow, you definitely don’t have square eyes then! ‘The Good Witch’, that rings a bell🤔🤔! Thankyouu so much for the recommendation!🤗😃
