Dermalogica Skincare Review – Acne and Eczema Friendly?

Purge or splurge? Call me your skincare guinea pig, with slightly less hair!

Rewind to last year, I was shopping the post Christmas sales, I found many goodies and one in particular was the dermalogica skincare gift set. Now don’t get me wrong, I only added it to my basket to get free delivery on other items I ordered. Call it an accidental purchase if you will, do I regret it? Hell no!

On first use, I was very hesitant. Let me give you the backstory to my skin type. Very sensitive eczema, photosensitive, photo-aggravated and for the last 3-4 years, acne prone. So non-comedonegic, natural simple skincare without added fragrances and harmful chemicals / ingredients. So you can understand why I’m so cautious regarding what I add into my skincare regime as it can entirely upset and aggravate my skin.

When I remove my makeup, I look for the most effective, gentle way to remove not only my makeup, but any debris or oil that may be hiding just below the skin surface. I would mainly remove makeup with makeup wipes either alone or with an addition of a lightweight cleanser. Oil cleansers would freak me out as you naturally equate oil making acne much worse…. until now.

All of Dermalogica’s range is non-comedogenic. Where are my acne familia at? My holy grail.

Precleanse Cleansing Oil:

Melts away makeup and debris, silky without any added fragrance. I apply this onto my face with freshly washed, dry hands – making circular motions with my fingertips, paying extra attention to my t-zone, crevices around nose area, extending to the perimeters of my face. Then dampening my hands with water, returning back to create a milky looking face wash, loosening everything the precleanse has gently removed. It’s pretty therapeutic seeing it lift away your layer of makeup even waterproof mascara and any excess sebul (oil), environmental pollutants, residual products, sunscreen that your skin’s exposed to day in, day out. This step prepares your skin for the main cleansing step which gets to the nitty gritty!

Special Cleansing Gel:

This gentle soap-free cleansing gel is so light and mild, my skin can gladly tolerate it daily as it kindly cleans my sensitive, combo/problematic skin without that stripping, inflammation or drying feeling you can often be left with. It’s nourishing enough, it almost feels like a foaming moisturiser when you’re massaging and washing your skin. It’s silky soft, opposite to what you’ve probably tried in the past. My skin is left feeling clean whilst looking and feeling plump and hydrated. It’s very rare for skincare products to not burn, redden or make my skin have a tingling sensation, somehow this product understands my skin. Not formulated with harsh chemicals, silicones and fragrances, which is a huge tick for eczema and/or acne-prone skin. Can I get an amen?

My final thoughts are that this is a great range. If my skin loves it and my skin’s very judgemental and overdramatic, you’re in safe hands as I’m quite certain it’ll work for practically everyone. Whether you’re acne prone, suffer from eczema, psoriasis or any skin condition, as long as you patch test a less noticeable, small patch of skin to be 100% positive your skin doesn’t react, you’re good to go! The price range is a higher than drugstore which I completely understand, there are reductions and offers that you can nab if full price is enough to stress you into a pimple hehe. I’m a sale rack gal so I’m with you!

  1. I need to use something for people who have diabetes and eczema. The skin products that are shown inside of this blog are very expensive. Do you have a formula that is design for men? Please let me know. I will be glad to try it out for a short period of time. I have been using Aquaphor for people who suffer from eczema. As of late, my skin has been very dry due to the changes in the weather in the Ohio River Valley. What do you recommend for people over 50 and suffer from eczema?

    1. La Roche posay toleraine is a great, affordable range that I also use daily! Their cleanser has no scent, doesn’t foam as it’s so hydrating, perfect for the most sensitive skin.
The weather changes always play havoc for our skin doesn’t it, entirely drying out the little moisture we naturally produce!
I really hope these products give you more options as I know it can be virtually impossible to find products that don’t burn or aggravate our already very sensitive skin. I’ll attach the link so you can check out their range and ingredients to see if it suits you, I highly recommend La Roche posay’s toleraine range🤗.
