Tom Jones: Live in Concert!

Can I hear a hell “YEAH!”? If you didn’t get the inside Tom Jones joke… I think you’re in the wrong place. Either way, what’s new pussycat?

When I say incredible, that’s an understatement. Fans of all ages jumping or crawling… out of their seats all for the man himself. I can only compare the charisma and natural stage presence to that of Elvis. Tom Jones needs a film about his life and career too at some point! I even witnessed a lady throw her what shall not be mentioned towards the stage… Oh and another lady flare her dress up showing her rear… But in my defence, I bought these second row seats for my mother. It was only days after initially booking I thought, hmm this is going to be slightly awkward watching Tom Jones sing ‘Sexbomb’ or you can leave your hat on. I didn’t only leave my hat on, I left my jacket on too before anyone started getting any ideas!

As soon as he came on stage, his voice without any gimmicks, alterations, prerecordings was simply magical. The essence, weight, tone, feeling and believing every word and vowel sung, relates to how the audience interacts as you automatically respond to passion and most importantly, a once in a lifetime voice. It’s difficult to fathom that some of the best vocalists of all time are still performing in their older years far better than modern artists. The quality of voice is unheard of nowadays. Miming, dancing, autotune – is that really a singer? Nope.

I highly recommend witnessing Tom Jones live if you can, as I’ve attended many concerts and only few are simply untouchable. He’s up there with Dionne Wawrick, Tony Bennett and others I’ve been fortunate to see live. It’ll be a night you won’t forget!

I think you can accurately take a wild guess at how successful and relevant Tom Jones really is. I’ve never seen women who definitely weren’t school girls sprint to the front of the stage for his biggest hits. How many singers catalogue and career span over 6 decades? Most artists nowadays enter music just to earn a quick buck. It shows how much you must really love and live for music if you’ve made all the money in the world and you still perform for the sake of it.

Now that’s star quality. Can I get an amen? Or a “YEAH” would be more fitting.
