Valentine’s Day 2024 Ideas – Galentine’s Included!

Booking a romantic dinner, or staying indoors for a cute intimate candlelit dinner and movie or even a long distance Valentine’s Day where you spend it apart, there are many ways to indulge this Valentine’s Day; singletons, I’ve got you!

Whilst Valentine’s Day can be the perfect time to show your special one how much they mean to you, the definition of February 14th may differ dependent on who you ask. “Overrated” or “What better day is there to celebrate love?”. Love is all around me… mushy like a trip to a vineyard, but still lovely.

I’ll be the first to admit, there’s nothing worse than seeing everyone loved up for the day and feeling like the odd one out. Time is on your side, as trust me, many of these couples will be broken up by summer! I’m not being a meany, just putting reality into perspective and being honest. Autumn/winter are when singletons look to couple up, like hedgehogs, often to hibernate through the bitterly cold months. As soon as the ice melts off their cars and frostbite’s a thing of the past, they’re off to the airport to rave in Ibiza; the couple life no longer suits the seasonal change. Crazy, but true. So whether you’re single, in a couple, situationship or going through a rough patch, there are many different ways to make this the best Valentine’s Day ever!

For couples:

Eating at a dinner date gif.

1. Candlelit dinner.

2. Cosy two or three course dinner in the comfort of your own home, the thought of a sharing board is making my mouth-water! Either homemade, ordering takeaway or supermarket readily prepared Valentine’s foodie bundles. Majority of supermarkets stock them, Marks and Spencer is delicious!

3. Activity based – crazy golf, horse riding experience, bowling, ice skating, rollerblading or a trip to the arcade,

4. The Classic cinema date – grab a bite to eat, whether that’s a quick drive-thru stop off en-route the cinema or a restaurant experience before enjoying watching a new movie on the big screen whilst nibbling on chocolate covered popcorn: yum!

If your valentine has forgotten its valentines day, or didn’t know you were celebrating it, that’s also not automatically bad. Once you communicate, often it’s not an active choice that one may forget or just see it as an ordinary day. After all, its individual choice whether you wish to participate.

Long-distance alternatives:

1. A zoom dinner date – this can be a pretty cute option. If you both follow a recipe either on zoom or prior to the video call, then ring your other half when it’s all served up and ready – set a time to be ready for and it can be a really thoughtful way of feeling included whilst embracing the day of luuurve.

2. Have a long phone call – sharing the days events whilst reflecting on your relationship.

3. Send each-other a little card or gift to show you’re thinking of them: roses, a card, box of chocolates or if you’re thinking more of a keepsake, a necklace or piece of jewellery of sort. It’s the thought that counts, no need to be diving deep within your pockets, sentiment speaks volumes. Even an e-card is thoughtful! Moonpig has a great selection of personalised cards, gifts and roses!

Singletons:

Galentine’s Day.

Your time to have fun or practice a TLC evening is here. Trust me, Galentine’s can be way better than the regular Valentine’s Day. You can have a fun night-in with the girls whether that’s on zoom or a sleepover, the choice is yours. A night on the town; a glam fancy restaurant reservation with your day ones – Galentine’s is your oyster. Guys can also hang out with their friends at a chilled bar or activity-themed evening, literally anthing! Even going on a first date on valentine’s can be a romantic-themed way to partake!

Valentine’s Day can be a day when you may reflect. Loss or a void for many reasons can make memories or emotions resurface. It’s really helpful to check up on loved ones even a message to say they’re okay can make it seem less quiet or lonely today. As it can be hard to ignore the incessant marketing techniques plastered in shops and adverts with hearts and being ‘in love’ like life is that simple, routine and robotic at the drop of a hat.

After all, love doesn’t evolve one day annually, you really can’t put a date on when or how to show love. But there are many ways to put a fun spin on Valentine’s Day this year!

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Have you had a Valentine’s disaster? Is the day just a marketing scheme or should we take it seriously? Comment below!

  1. One of the best Valentine’s Days I ever had was me, my lady and a pizza just hanging out enjoying each other’s company. I think the sentiment behind the day is nice, but like most other special days/holidays, it’s become more about the marketing and the merch, but again, that’s everything everywhere. It’s up to us as individuals to remember what truly matters.

    1. Aww that’s such a lovely memory, simple and sweet. It emphasises the moment even more when it’s stripped back without all the bells and whistles.
That’s an idea, maybe I’ll order a Chicago town or two hehe!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours, Kevin!😃🤍

  2. I remember a radio announcer in Edmonton Alberta Canada (who always had trouble getting dates and talked about it on his radio show) once remarked, “In my opinion, the only guy who truly knew how to celebrate Valentine’s Day was Al Capone.”
