The day is here. To experience nature’s work of art up close and personal. But first, I had to drive an hour to arrive at the destination. Don’t get me started on parking, I had to go round and round then I spotted a teeny space in the distance would could just about fit my car. After a few too many adjustments and manoeuvres, tada! Can I get an amen?
After having our pre bought tickets printed out at the ticketing office (as it’s highly recommended to book in advance due to the popularity while additionally avoiding unnecessary disappointment); everyone started forming an orderly queue around 45 minutes prior to departure. Either they’re keen or wanted first dibs to window seats; my hunch tells me it’s the latter, so I had to join in of course. In it to win it and all that good stuff.
You’re not assigned a specific seat, only a carriage so it’s pretty much first come, first served. Unexpectedly, I was the first in line for carriage H, which I must say I was immensely chuffed about. I charged towards the train in a calm and collected but speedily fashion so I wasn’t crammed in the middle. 2 and 1/2 hour journey and £42 + £3.50 booking fee for the privilege would’ve been a bit steep for limited views of the sides and backs of strangers’ heads!
As the train takes off my eyes are fixated on the superb surroundings that capture and engulf my mind; truly eyegasmic. I know you’ve heard enough of me rambling on, so I’ll let the setting do the talking!
On the way back, I didn’t mind being packed like sardines in the middle, so everyone had the opportunity to take in the mesmerising sights.
Something about the railway station reminded me of a classic festive fair scene from a hallmark Christmas movie. Do you see it or am I just going Christmas crazy already?
I thoroughly enjoyed this and my whole staycation, though this had to be one of my highlights!

I went up there about 30 years ago and it wasn’t that clear lol. It’s a beautiful place to go – love the pictures 🙂

Those are breathtakingly beautiful and mesmerizing views.
When given the choice between climbing and taking the train you posed at the start of this post, I thought taking the train.
But then when I read about being packed in like sardines, I thought maybe not.
Unless they’re open on New Year’s Day when they’re not so busy as most of the world’s population is busy recovering from their hangovers in which case I might try it then.
Yes, I love trains.
My dad and I once travelled on an old prairie steam train (part of an old railway bought by a retired steam train engineer) between Stettler Alberta Canada 🍁 and Donalda Alberta Canada 🍁.
We were treated to a train holdup by a bunch of mask wearing cowboys and cowgirls on horses (all part of an act of course) and then once we reached Donalda, we were all treated to farm home cooked meals put on by the community.
And yes that pic at the end does look like an old Hallmark Christmas movie.
Which I’ll be able to start watching them again soon.

We’ve driven from Merseyside to Wales a few times when over in the UK to see family. This post brought back happy memories of sharing beautiful vistas with my sweety, my cousins, their partners and kids. I do think the station looks a bit Hallmark-Christmasy!
