There are so many red shades on the market. Either too orange, too pink, and everything else in between! But how do you find the perfect red lipstick that compliments you?
Know Your Undertones! Your natural undertones help you so much, in pointing you in the right direction, enabling you to find your own unique shades for many things in makeup. From foundation all the way to lipstick! The easiest way to find this is by observing the veins on your wrist. If your veins appear more on the purple side, you have cool undertones. If your veins are a green colour, you’re considered to have a warm undertone! It’s as simple as that! Lipstick also has undertones, so lipsticks classified as ‘warm’ are usually orangey-red. A ‘cool’ red is usually a bluish red.
Tip: Now funnily enough, I go for a more blue under-toned lipstick as they make your teeth look way whiter. So keep that in mind if you want your teeth looking like pearly whites!
Choice! If you want a red lipstick that really stands out, choose a lipstick that is opposite to your skins natural undertones. Otherwise, if you’re going for a more simple everyday red, then go for a lipstick that matches the same undertones your skin has. Makeup is fun, so always have options as to which mood you’re feeling. As, if you’re like me, my mood can switch from understated to Rihanna within a heartbeat!
Test it! Most of us wouldn’t buy an LBD without trying some on. The same goes for lipsticks! You need to try some on, along with swatching them on your hand. And trust me I know that’s scary as the majority of ‘sample makeup’ have all sorts of germs and infections on them. Ew. But I’d just advice you look at the product, if it still looks somewhat sanitary, wipe off the first layer of lipstick so you have the best chance of it being sanitary, then get a cotton bud to apply it to your lips, to avoid catching anything unpleasant!
It’s Makeup! Have fun with it, as finding the staple red is one of the most satisfying things to have in your makeup bag! Play around with different shades, and when you find the perfect one, you can start matching them with blushers, eyeshadows and liner when you feel comfortable!
Have you found your staple red? Do you prefer a red lip or nude? Comment Below!

Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a go next time I buy some lipstick.

Great advice. I always have a hard time finding lipstick so I usually stick with a pink lipgloss. I didn’t know about the undertone thing. I learned something new today. Thank you

I am a bald man miles away from beauty. But the least I do is to offer my palate to my beloved for her deep undertones considerations. It works great. The one that glares back at her would be the chosen one.😊

Red is probably my least favorite color of lipstick on a lady. I’m weird I know… I like almost every other color!

It’s so common… I’ve found that I like glossy or natural colors… and then certain women can pull off some very intriguing colors. Which I don’t mind!
