Wordless Wednesday

…almost.

I have a puzzle. Quite an old school puzzle, as my brother introduced this one to me many years ago when I was quite young. If you haven’t heard of it or seen it before, it’s very simple but incredibly difficult, and will have you occupied for hours!

All you need is a sheet of paper (probably a few sheets at least as you have around a 1% chance of getting it right first time) and a pen/pencil.

Draw out the easy diagram that you see above and you must ensure each house has Gas, Water and Electricity, without the connection lines crossing. So they have a supply without you crossing any other ‘supply’. I’ll repeat, each individual line must NOT be crossed or it’s not valid. In total to complete the puzzle you should only have 9 lines altogether divided into 3 houses.

Comment below if you have managed to solve the puzzle either with a photo or you just stating you have. I managed to do it ages ago and every time I show someone this puzzle, they try for about an hour and get so frustrated about not being able to solve it. I must’ve had endless sheets of paper as I remember it was not easy!

If you like trial and error problems, you’ll LOVE this! Share this with anyone you think loves problem solving!

  1. Oh, a puzzle! Reminds me of something I’d find in one of those “How Smart Are You?” books.(Answer: Not very, apparently.)

OK, I think I can solve this one. What if I do this? Yes! How about that? OK. Then? Then…no, that won’t work.

Alright, what if I try this? No, that doesn’t even make sense!

Six hours later, the wastebasket is lost beneath an avalanche of wrinkled-up papers.

Wait, I know! All three houses are Amish farmsteads, hence, no electricity, gas or water! There – problem solved!

Ahaha unfortunately that definitely isn’t the problem solved, that’d be way too easy.😂 This puzzle is like the Rubik’s cube!😂
I’m sure you can do it!😃

  2. That looks a really difficult one. I like terrifiedamateurs answer. Good problem.
Where do you find such nice problems from? I would give them biogas, solar power, rain water harvesting, hi hi heh heh

    1. It is difficult, but afterwards when you solve it, ahhh is there anything more satisfying? Apart from crunching up your sheets of paper non-stop in frustration trying to solve this haha!😃
You can definitely do it, it’s like a crossword or something but a tiny bit harder😂, quarantine is the best time for it!😃
