Philip Kingsley Haircare Review!

Does it live up to its elasticizing hype? See what I did there? If you don’t get the pun, carry on reading to regain yourself!

So, since my last post about struggling to find the right haircare products, I received many recommendations, so I thought I’d try Philip Kingsley first! They kindly gifted me this package, but this is not an advert, it’s an unbiased review as who wants a biased one?! So let’s get down to the nitty gritty! Probably the wrong time to mention that regarding hair!

There are 5 products in this bundle, consisting of; Heat Damage Defence; Curl Activator; Elasticizer Extreme; Moisture Extreme Shampoo; Moisture Extreme Conditioner.

I’m first going to give some background information of the type of hair I have. My hair is combination, not coarse, it naturally has a few waves and curls, some bits are straight, then if I brush it all out, I just get frizz. So I don’t have formation as such. I wish I had natural coils, but how I achieve my curls is by braiding loosely without any heat! One thing I do suffer from is dry hair! And a very sensitive scalp due to alopecia. It feels like there’s hardly any natural moisture throughout my hair strands, so I was in need of something activating the moisture that your scalp and hair should naturally have. So receiving these items made to bring moisture back to your hair, if my hair could talk it would quote the film ‘Grease’, “you’re the one that I want!”.

And before you ask – no that’s Beyoncรฉ, I know I know… The resemblance is uncanny..

BACK TO HAIR! First up, is the Elasticizer! Yes it sounds like I’m introducing a new superhero!

Elasticizer Extreme

This is a Rich Deep – Conditioning Treatment as it states, and trust me is it that! If you want that extra surge of moisture, this is your guy! Use before shampooing, apply to hair concentrating on mid-lengths to ends. Pop on the shower cap that’s included with this product and leave on for as long as you can, if that’s an hour, or even throughout the night! Your hair’s gonna love you more the longer you leave it doing its thing. But if you’re in a rush, don’t worry, 10 minutes will suffice! After using you really feel the difference, you know when you shampoo your hair it can feel dry and brittle? I didn’t get that when I used this pre shampooing, my hair felt silky!

Moisture Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner

One word, amazing! Shampoo and conditioner is one of the most important parts of a good haircare regime! You can’t have all other great products if the fundamentals are all wrong. These two are like the ying to its yang, and they do not dry out my hair! Shampoo’s have a tendency to leave your hair feeling dry and matted as they contain many ingredients that may not be the best for your hair like sulfates, but this shampoo doesn’t contain that! And that’s a sign of a great shampoo! The conditioner does its job of bringing back even more moisture than I thought I even needed! So when I towel-dry my hair, my hair isn’t feeling brittle! That’s a new feeling for me!

Curl Activator

The name gives it away! If you have curly or wavy hair that’s prone to frizz, this product works by separating curls to give them individual attention! The formula is non-sticky and for curly haired girls, that’s one of the important factors in how we combat the matted look! Curls need individual love and moisture that’s the secret to helping maintain them. This product also has medium hold so your curl shouldn’t go flat and you can brush out the formula – meaning less build-up! This product would also be great for if you don’t have the hair type mentioned but you want to recreate a voluminous hairstyle!

Daily Damage Defence Spray / Leave-in Conditioner

One HUGE thing I’ve learned, is if your have curly/wavy or dry hair, you MUST use leave-in conditioner! Conditioner makes your hair silky smooth and locks in moisture, and us curly/wavy/frizzy haired girls need all the conditioner we can get! Normal conditioner is too heavy to leave in your hair, that’s why there’s a leave-in version as it’s much more lightweight. Plus, this spray has an added incentive which I don’t think I’ve heard before, it also protects your hair against heat! So if you’re using styling tools, you just need this one product. As usually, I’d always have to have two separate products, but clearly I was wrong! This spray is a lifesaver and it’s a 2 in 1!

I hope this review has helped anyone searching for a new haircare routine, and any alopecia sufferers! If you want me to write more reviews on different products, let me know in the comments below if you’ve enjoyed reading this one and want to see more! Just call me your guinea pig!

  1. Thank you for the product review. Since I did the big chop 3 years ago, after having locks for 30 years, I feel that I never gave myself a chance to get to know my nature hair. Going to cut to a short crop afro and get good products.

    1. Aww no need to thank me!!๐Ÿค— so glad you found it helpful!๐Ÿ˜ even though I suffer from alopecia, the permanent form mostly, my hair grows quite fast. So I havenโ€™t seen a noticeable difference in hair growth than my usual. But the shampoo and conditioner would probably help many peopleโ€™s hair growth as it doesnโ€™t contain sulfates which can be quite harsh on the scalp and hair. Iโ€™ll keep you posted if I do see a growth difference though!๐Ÿ˜

  3. Haven’t you heard, Antonia, a magician never should reveal her secrets?

Yet you did, step-by-step, and you showed us the stunning finale, yet still, those of us in the audience merely blink and sputter, “Wait, how’d she do that again?”

Keep us baffled, and amazed, Antonia!
