My Summer Makeup Routine with a Pop of Colour!

Lightweight, fresh makeup but with a fruity twist. It’s blossoming season after all, a flush of colour to begin summer!

Cake? No. Heavy powder? Nah. Taking forever to apply makeup only to sweat it off minutes after? Hell no! We want fast, efficient, makeup which still enhances our best features while also hiding minor imperfections possibly even from the night before! Summer nights are shorter, we don’t strive for the tired look if we can help it. Makeup is fun, lets not be so serious!

Adding a pop of colour to your makeup routine can really help you look revitalised, healthy, while keeping products to a minimum. Walking around with a heavy makeup bag in the blazing sun is never the way! Less is more, the sun is your natural filter! I’ll just highlight what my mama gave me hehe.

My key products for summer are moisturiser, SPF (obviously), concealer and a punchy lipstick / lip stain, to remind me that strawberries are in season! Let your lips do the talking with glowy, hydrated, sun-kissed skin.

REN Evercalm™ Global Protection Day Cream
REN Clean Skincare Radiance Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream
Ultrasun Face Fluid Tinted SPF 50+
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
NARS Soft Matte Concealer
  • Step Two – Concealer: Hands down, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. My go-to. What can I say? There are many concealers out there, for minimal makeup it’s not all that important which you use. The NARS Concealer is medium coverage, additionally due to the radiant component, it doesn’t make you look flat or matte. It looks like it comes from within, like it’s a step in your skincare! I apply least amount of product possible. One to two dots of concealer under both eyes, I easily blend that with my ring finger using a patting motion – similar to what you’d do with a beauty blender. If you suffer from a pesky pimple or two, apply a dot in those areas too. If you want heavier coverage for scars or severe acne for example, The NARS Soft Matte Concealer is full coverage with a thicker consistency.
MAC Lip Pencil – Spice
MAC Macximal Silky Matte Lipstick – Velvet Teddy
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil – Serenity
  • Step Three – Lipstick: You can use ANY vibrant shade. It’s summer after all. Lip tints / stains to stay put all day long or lipsticks, it’s down to preference. Both can be used as a lip colour and blush all in one! I concentrate on hydrating the lips to the MAX before application of anything. You don’t want the colour to settle into fine lines and the dreaded lipstick feathering. That happens when your lips aren’t hydrated and primed enough prior to application. A lip liner can also help keep feathered lips at bay. My choice of lip liner is MAC Lip Pencil – Spice which lasts all day. I tend up opt out of lipsticks on hot summers day due to maintenance etc, but it’s personal choice. MAC Macximal Silky Matte Lipstick – Velvet Teddy is a great choice I opt for, but equally a lip stain / tints can be more lightweight if you’re keeping makeup to a minimum. A viral and beautiful option is Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil in colour Hope or Serenity. Hydrating, pop of colour and long lasting.

As summer hits, we don’t even need makeup. But if you want to feel that bit extra glam, quick and easy products make life that much simpler! If you’re wanting a little extra for the evening, throw on some eyeliner, mascara and a brow gel. Voilà!

What’s your summer routine like? What are your three products of choice – makeup related or anything? Which sunscreen works for you? Comment below!
