The Acne Diaries – Part 3: My Miracle Cream!

This is the most important thing any acne sufferer wants to know. What worked and how do I get my hands on it?! I’ll have all the details below!

Yes, those are before and after photos above, because of this incredible miracle cream! If you can’t see the difference, you need to go to Specsavers!

Continuing from part 2, my dermatology appointment was nearing. It was like my prayers have been answered, just by me receiving the appointment! I kept hoping I’d be given the right medication so acne is a distant memory for me. Is that too much for a girl to ask for?!

I’ve had enough of hiding my skin away. Feeling like I must wear makeup to cover up my blemishes and spots, is so not me. As much as I love makeup, I don’t like feeling as though I need to wear makeup. Especially to cover up scars and blemishes. It would just infuriate me. Before going out, I’d feel like I need to conceal my spots. Even if a delivery man arrived at my door, I’d almost feel like I couldn’t answer the door, as by the time it would take to apply concealer, he’d be gone!

This is how I’ve been feeling for months, almost a year actually, and it affects your life entirely. You feel like someone isn’t watching you in the eyes, just your spots that have accumulated all over my face! It can make you feel invisible and as though your spots now represent you.

Thankfully, not everyone feels like that, but I’m just opening up about my experience.

So appointment day is here! I’m waiting outside her office…

She calls my name. I’m sure even before I sat down I mentioned my skin mainly on my forehead and how NOTHING is working. And what products I’ve tried. So she says I have acne and prescribes me a cream called ‘Skinoren’. The dermatologist also says that I should start seeing some improvement within one to two months.

I used it once a day for the first week, then twice a day from week two onwards.

Now when I say this is a life saver, THIS IS A LIFE SAVER! This is for sensitive skin, that hasn’t been able to tolerate other more harsh acne creams. The main ingredient in Skinoren is Azelaic Acid 20%.

Azelaic Acid is a naturally occurring acid found in grains such as barley, wheat, and rye.

It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which make it effective in the treatment of skin conditions like acne and rosacea. The acid can prevent future outbreaks and clean bacteria from your pores that causes acne.

This acid also helps brighten skin tone, and rapidly turns over skin cells, meaning that scarring is a thing of the past. And that’s also what I’ve noticed with my skin.

I LOVE this cream! It did take longer for me to see the benefits from this cream, I’d say around 4 months. But when it begins to work. Trust me this is a miracle in a tube! Your skin becomes brighter and just more healthy looking, along with getting rid of pimples/spots/comedones.

Only thing is that don’t be expecting ultra fast results. For all my spots and even the hundreds I had underneath my skin, I’d say it took a good 6 months.

I didn’t notice any ultra drying or flaking skin from the areas I applied the cream. Unlike benzoyl peroxide and adapalene (Epiduo), my skin was always on fire! I hardly felt any skin burning with Skinoren, I’d say maybe I felt the tiniest amount at the start. But was 100% tolerable and wouldn’t last for long. Just on application. But I do have ultra sensitive skin.

Another side effect I noticed was skin reddening in the areas of application. Without an obvious burning sensation. But it would only last for up to 30 minutes I’d say!

Also, since the start of treatment, I decided to use my ‘Dermol 500 lotion’ religiously as a cleanser, twice daily. As this is the ONLY cleanser for me that doesn’t burn or make my skin feel ultra tight! It’s a very mild cleanser for the most sensitive of skin and I’d highly recommend this also!

I still use Skinoren religiously just to keep my acne from returning and it’s a life saver. Plus it doesn’t bleach any clothing thankfully, unlike benzoyl peroxide!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this series, and found my recommendations and story helpful! It has been a long road, but it’s also opened my eyes to acne sufferers and what they go through everyday, emotionally and physically.

I know how finding the right skincare is a mission, as acne almost wants to fight off everything. So I hope these products help you or anyone you know that sufferers from acne.

My skin currently!

  1. You are stunning 😍 I suffered from acne in my teens and 20’s . Im almost 40 and I finally don’t have that issue anymore. I only put aloe vera and coconut oil on my face! I try to use natural products for everything

    1. Aww thankyouu so much! Ahh thankfully you’re not suffering from acne anymore! It can be pretty hard to keep at bay but it sounds like you’ve discovered what works for your skin! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a future skincare routine from you maybe👀 your skin looks bomb!

  2. Wow, Antonia, you are resplendent!

After all those treatments, none of which seemed to do much, despite a pretty hideous collection of side effects, you found something that works! No doubt, at times, you despaired of ever finding anything.

Up to now, self-consciousness tethered your life. Now, though, you shine, and in more ways than one.

Funny thing, that, how one miracle can transform you.

  3. Wow you look amazing! I am still an acne sufferer but now it has almost disappeared. From the age of 13 I have used infinite products and visited a few dermatologists and I had always issues with my skin. Normally my skin was on 🔥 as you said. Itchy and red like a tomato 😅A few years ago , one dermatologist said me I had D.S( dermatitis seborrhoeic) and since then I use only 3 products , especially for D.S I may write a post about it ..

    1. I’m still an acne sufferer too!😫 but the skinoren I continue to use, has basically calmed the acne down and most of the spots/bumps that were there, are virtually gone! But whenever I stop the cream, it probably would start up again.
Acne is a long road isn’t it?!

That’s so interesting! I was told by one dr that I had seborrheic dermatitis on my face etc, then other doctors said something else! And the treatment I received for the ‘seborrheic dermatitis’ didn’t make a difference at all to my bumps and spots. If anything, it may have made the tiniest difference. Couldn’t even tell if it was better or worse!😂

I’m so glad it worked for you though, I imagine the products you’ve been using for that condition must be a lot more effective than what I got😂!

Skin is a crazy thing right? Some people think that acne sufferers over dramatise it, but until those same people live with it, day in day out – they’ll never understand the true extent it has, even mentally.

I definitely look forward to your post about your condition and what’s been working for you! As your acne journey sounds like a long ride, so your experience would help so many others – and me!

Thankyouu so much for reading and commenting!
Hope you’ve had an extra special merry Christmas!! 🤗💓
