Modesty Isn’t In Fashion, Nudity Is?

Undergarments and clothing is so last year. The trend is to flash your body parts with your head held high. Didn’t your parents tell you it’s rude to stare? *Disclaimer, this post contains nudity*

Throw your sewing machines away, sell them for scrap, along with your washing machine away, trust me you won’t be needing that. Bra and underwear, burn them. Get with the times, you won’t be needing them ever again. All your wardrobe needs is duct tape and nipple patches, purely for special occasions. Peace and love, embrace your bodies. Free the nip, oh and your private parts. Stop being such a prude, wake up to reality! Nudists and naturists are also out of trend, since we’ll all be flashing each other. We’re all in this together.

Cult? Brainwashed? Society? Peer pressure? Agendas?

Hyper-sexualisation of women.

I’m sure all of us have noticed strangers in the street, shops we buy clothes from, or even images in the media – leaving nothing to the imagination. What we watch, read, scroll has become tainted. Gradual progression, so it’s a smoother transition for us all. Music for example, hip hop is the most popular genre currently. Music videos are plastered with nudity. A modest dress? Not flashing your behind for views? I can’t recall the last time that was the norm. Whilst men are covered up, not showing one inch of skin. Equality? Can the damage be reversed? I think it’s permanent.

Doja Cat – MTV VMAs 2023

Doja Cat attempting to be eye-catching, authentic and different but really it’s just another way of showing your body. The web is partially modest, maybe?

Tinashe – MTV VMAs 2023

Tinashe, attending the MTV VMA’s wearing nothing but duct tape. Inspirational and Empowering. Oh sorry, that’s the default setting we’ve become accustomed to hearing. Will AI be indoctrinating our minds too or just humans?

Naomi Campbell’s new fashion partnership with Pretty Little Thing; ‘A UK-based multi-billion pound fast fashion retailer aimed at 16–41-year-old women. The company is owned by Boohoo Group and operates in the UK, Ireland, Australia, US, France, Middle East and North Africa.‘ – cited from Wikipedia. The collection made headlines, game changing partnership as supermodels and fast fashion don’t usually work hand in hand. It caught my attention for other reasons, I would elaborate – but the photos speak for themselves.

What. Is. Wrong. With. Society. Imagine walking down the road and seeing someone wear these outfits. You’re raising children to see this when they’re prom dress shopping. You can shield them from television, magazines and social media, how do you shield them from going out? They’re not hobbits, when they’re walking back from school, and they observe someone wearing these ‘outfits’, what can you do?

I thought indecent exposure is illegal. Upskirting has recently become a recognised criminal offence. The difficulty with these laws, is if people are allowed to be dressed with virtually nothing on, if I take a photo or video of my surroundings walking somewhere, does that make me criminal? If I’m attending a party or concert, am I the offender due to close to naked people being in my orbit? If so, filming and photography will need to be banned in all environments. Legalities are becoming increasingly blurred which can put peoples lives in danger. Indecent exposure and upskirting are intensely serious offences and shouldn’t be belittled by the lack of clothing retailers are enticing teenagers and young adults to buy. Years ago, businesses were selling sweeties, now it’s x-rated mesh – the equivalent to what pornstars wear. Pornstars are selling a service, what is the average Joe selling? Her body parts, self-esteem and soul.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! Fairy godmother – Shrek gif

Where can you wear these garments out to? A date night? A night out to a club? Family occasion? Prom?! No, no and no. Because it’s all kinds of wrong. Whether you’re 16 or 60, this is not clothing. And these should not be allowed to be sold. Showing your body parts in this way is indecent exposure once you walk outside. Retailers need to be held accountable as these garments are unsuitable to be worn out. Let me refer to the outfit description – ‘Get ready to show off your confident side in this black mesh seam detail toe thong jumpsuit, you’re sure to be at the centre of attention whatever your plans’, ‘Team this mesh jumpsuit with your fave heels, a statement trench coat and minimal accessories for a fool proof finish’. As to the nude bodychain: ‘Team this body jewellery with a white blazer, matching trousers and your highest heels for a look everyone will be asking about’. They’ll be asking about it alright…

Designed by Naomi Campbell for Pretty Little Thing.

Finishing it off with a coat will really cover your modesty. I think window girls in the Amsterdam red light district have more clothing on. At least they know the time and place for it. Imagine this imagery facing you in the Ritz, there’s more on display than tea and scones…

Will there ever be a time where we can just wear a simple jeans and shirt like men do without sexualisation? It’s looking ever so unlikely.

What do you think? Have you noticed the downfall of society, or the extent of it until now? Do you find today’s fashion expectations empowering or degrading? Comment below!

    1. Exactly, I don’t understand the logic. I’ve even heard some women say that ‘we have the right to walk down the street with nothing on and that men don’t have the right to stare at us’. It’s absurd.

It’s obscene as it’s a natural response to look. Women would also look. An ant or cockroach would look!
I’m pretty sure it’s illegal exposure in some westernised countries also. I’m sure I’d be arrested if I wore this in England🤷‍♀️.

Thankyou so much for reading and commenting!

  1. Yes, I do agree with your views. The commodification of feelings, humans and culture is a norm. Most of this “fashion”, is aimed at teenagers who are high on hormones and are made to believe in “You Live Only Once” philosophy. They are literally living their life one day at a time and are doomed to go down when a rainy day strikes.

I admit that we dont live for ever, but where is the talk of creating a legacy, passing the legacy to the next generation, curating the wisdom of previous one….etc..

Its all commerce and the Gen-Z is the most affected generation by commercialisation and commodification.

We all need to take a pause from what …… spending money mindlessly!

    1. 100%!
These outfits / imagery are being designed to indoctrinate a very young, impressionable audience. Once you take a photo in one of these outfits for example and share it on the internet, you’ll never be able to entirely remove your digital footprint.

When you apply for jobs; raise a family; date even – and an image dressed in any of these outfits are the results that appear on google or anywhere, it really can affect your life.
For better or worse, depends of what outcome you desire to get out of it.

Youngsters think, we’re all doing it, no one’s going to bat an eyelid. This outlook should’ve never started and will be very difficult to contain such a corrupt ideology.

      Who’s gaining from this?

You’re spending £80 for what people can see for free, just parade around with barely anything on. At least it won’t cost you anything.

Before, people would hide in private to watch porn. It’s become so normalised, you’ll see this imagery down the aisle at your local asda / Walmart, live in action. Or at your nearest bus stop.

There needs to be further legislations put in place in terms of what places are deemed acceptable to wear this attire in or around as this could easily get out of control, if it hasn’t already.

  2. It is embarrassing for others, I have the experience one day I was talking my coffee in 7 eleven and a girl entered with black dress the other two men also there , we can take off our eyes from her , then how that girl say don’t stare on me, when you show of your. Private parts in the public and accept the other don’t have rights to stare on you. What if the. Men’s wear like this , show private parts do anyone like this. We are living in a social society where everyone should care about others emotional.

    1. I completely hear that. It’s a natural reaction for people to look or nudge their friends while murmuring as this is not the imagery we as human beings are accustomed to seeing in a coffee shop; at the office; at a restaurant or in the street.

It’s a very worrying time that society deems this acceptable clothing to go out in. Oh with the addition of heels and a coat to finish off the look. ‘Pretty Little Thing’ the retailers sticking and selling these garments, even state in the products description statements like, ‘all eyes will be on you’ ‘show off your confident side’ ‘you’ll sure to be the centre of attention whatever your plans’.
This is brainwashing, with shocking similarities to the practices that cults use.

What’s the difference between this and a cattle market?

If men dressed like this, there’d be a huge outcry. But when women do it, it’s empowering and establishing our rights.

What gender are the executives and CEO’s of many of these retailers, like ‘Pretty Little Thing’ for example?

      Men.

  3. Mesh shirts and string bikinis…most young women I’ve seen (I don’t get out much now) have the decency to wear something solid underneath the mesh—like some guys do with their football-themed mesh shirts. Women have always gotten the butt-end (sorry!) of any fashion or social trend we can think of. Becoming nothing more than objects d’art or eye candy for men. And to expect people to not look—is as unnatural as wearing such get-ups in everyday life. A fashion show is one thing—but out on the street-? You are right, this is getting out of hand!

    1. Haha the “butt end” sorry that was a good one! Women are like walking mannequins, the perception that we’re walking airheads is ridiculous, but that’s what the trends feed into.
Like a butchers, everything’s just on show.
There’s more to human beings than that, surely?
Fashion show, if you’ve got it flaunt it. Catwalks are there to push the boundaries, it’s a job!
High street / retailers selling these outfits (lack of) to 16 year olds? For what purpose?!

Thankyouu so much for reading, making me giggle and sharing your insight!😃

    1. Exactly, what’s so wrong with a pair of jeans and top? Clearly I’m extremely retro and not down the kids😂.
Many times, if you look at whom the CEO’s are these companies are, there’s your answer. How often are these CEO’s women?🤷‍♀️ I’ll just let the sound of crickets pass…😅

Thankyouu so much Simon for reading and commenting!😃

      1. I know what you mean here and I remember recently a girl in the US did some kind of dance protest outside a victoria secrets.

Basically the CEO is an old man and he decides what girls should be wearing. It’s a bit perverse really.

  4. I don’t have a problem with nudity or sheer clothing. However, these clothes are distasteful 🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. It’s not fashion, just looks trashy. Some women wear sheer clothing and it looks fantastic. None of the above looks good 🤦🏽‍♀️. When you dress like that, of course people are going to look. To think otherwise is ridiculous 🙄. But dressing like that for a runway and for a date are two different things. It also doesn’t mean you don’t respect yourself.

    1. It doesn’t even look sexy, as it leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. Sheer can be sexy as you’re teasing. Unlike this!
How are you meant to finish the outfit off with heels and a coat, clearly I’m living under a rock. You’ll catch hypothermia never mind how you’ll be perceived. Imagine somehow falling ill when you’re out and going to the emergency room like this and waiting hours to see a DR. Surely this counts as indecent exposure?

Exactly, one is a paid job the other is just inappropriate. Next thing, you’ll be seeing people turning up for interviews in these outfits and getting the job without providing any CV!

Thankyouu so much for reading and sharing your insight!!🤗🤍

  5. A great, impassioned post, Antonia. I agree with your views on the downfall of society, and this trend only promotes the objectification of women. Nudity is beautiful and has its place in intimate settings. Clothes used to matter more in the traditional sense that you’d see people dress up for important occasions where now, anything goes… not only revealing stuff but also dirty sweatpants and worn-out t-shirt with holes. Gah. I remember my first airplane trip as a kid… people wore dress clothing! Now it’s pyjamas, oh lawd, straight outta bed and onto the plane!
