New Beginnings – I’ll Drink to That!

‘Life’s too short to be sittin’ ’round miserable’. If you’re google searching this line, probably best not to watch Super Bowl LVII halftime show…

Change is supposedly all about the new year, isn’t it? Who made that rule? Change isn’t timed. It happens organically, in its own time when it’s meant to be. 2022 has been been about lessons, patience and flourishing. In this day and age, everything is done for the world to see. Whether that’s you popping your collar for views; perfecting the angle to show off the grain of rice you’re about to eat; or simply updating your status to stay relevant. You must be seen to be heard.

When I wanted to wrap myself up in cotton wool and hibernate to reset.

I’ve learnt and still continue to learn so much about myself. Almost like losing an earring and finding it a year later, not realising how much you missed it until it reappears. Many of us lose ourselves. Whether that’s due to work, relationships, children. And that’s okay, it’s the journey of life and boy can it feel like a rollercoaster you didn’t pay, prepare for or even want! I’m not going to lie, that process is one of the most difficult you can go through, as you’re faced with one thing and one thing alone. You.

It’s confronting as you don’t have anything or anyone to distract you. Almost like being in a room with bare white walls and your only accompaniment is a mirror. A mirror only reflecting you as a being; displaying your soul for all to see.

It does leave you feeling lonely and empty, because many times we look at others to fill the void that we have within. But each day that passes, you get a little bit stronger and courageous without realising. It can take days, months or even years, but once you’re at peace with yourself, there’s no feeling like it. You can rely on yourself for happiness. Words of affirmation are a bonus, not a necessity.

Being content with yourself is key.

You always hear that saying, you can’t love someone until you love yourself. We understand the meaning behind it, not many experience it firsthand. As it is daunting. But as long as you remember, we all have a destiny. The choices we make in life will lead us to our own story. If only we had hindsight or the resources to read our own blurb for directions as to where to go next.

You’re your own author. There’s no ghostwriter, so take your time!

P.S. Be ready for a lot of uploads as I’ve missed oversharing!
