My New Go-To Summer SPF Protection!

Makeup and SPF aren’t a natural combo, until now. Say goodbye to sunburnt, crispy skin, and hello to nourished skin, shielded from sun damage. Come rain or shine, this will be a handbag staple in no time!

The dreaded white cast. British weather is bad enough, why highlight our undeniable vitamin D deficiencies? We might as well smudge vanilla ice cream all over our face and body. A new take on 2 in 1 protection – with additional cooling. Tasty even! Let’s face it, we all look ridiculous with that cast, especially as it’s not halloween, I’d rather save the ghost look for occasion-wear if possible?

Before I share my summer beauty secrets, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The main reason you’re here. Not my humour silly, SPF protection. We all know how important it is, heightening our risk of skin cancer purely for superficial, lazy reasons – let’s face it, it’s shameful. Such small preventative steps can change lives – save lives even. Whether that’s sunscreen, staying in the shade as much as possible, protective clothing like hats, really helps combat sun damage. It’s boring, you might even rather stick pins or even sunscreen in your eyes! But it’s only a few additional minutes in your routine. Those minutes can extend your life by years quite literally; make summer 2023 and beyond as safe as possible! Ok, lecture over, I promise!

You wouldn’t ever believe, I’m wearing SPF 50 under my makeup. Yes, you heard that right. The higher the SPF factor, the whiter the cast, right? That’s where tinted moisturisers with SPF come into the mix! There are many on the market to choose from, SPF 50 is pretty high, and you many want SPF 30 or 35 etc, brands really have listened to us, the consumers so we can find the our perfect match. Compatibility isn’t only about romance. Trust me, I’ve ignored all the red flags on the ingredient list in the past, it left me in heartbreak and breakouts, that’s a combination you do not need honey!

My latest treasure find is Ultrasun Face Fluid Tinted SPF 50+.

It’s lightweight formula doesn’t feel like you’re stifling your skin. When barefaced, you can’t feel the difference. When wearing under makeup, it does feel slightly heavier than my usual routine without any SPF. Bearing in mind this is a mineral sunscreen so it creates a barrier between your skin and sun-rays by sitting on top of your skin. Whereas chemical sunscreens penetrate further, resulting in the somewhat invisible sensation/texture. Due to my skin being sensitive (eczema and acne), I rather a mineral, more gentle sunscreen. The tint is fairly bronze, but once applied to skin it suits a wide variety of skin tones which is always a plus. If you’re very fair, you may or may not like a subtle warmth to your skin, depending on preference. I’ll list some of its claims below!

“In the fight against premature ageing and sun damage, it is no longer enough to rely on the SPF in your foundation. This lightweight formula offers heavy duty UVA, UVB, Blue light & Infrared-A protection, in an easy-to-apply tinted fluid. It can be used in place of your daily moisturiser or foundation for those light make-up days that require flattering colour correction. Formulated with a hint of warm colour, blendable to suit all skin types and tones.  A potent mix of additional skincare ingredients including revolutionary anti-ageing enzyme Ectoin®, Vitamin E to smooth, moisturise and revitalise the skin and GSP-T, a complex that effectively neutralises skin damaging free radical activity stimulated by exposure to the sun. Ultrasun Tinted Face Fluid SPF50+ leaves skin soft to the touch, smooth and instantly radiant whilst safe guarding against future damage.”

  • ACTIVES – Ectoin®, GSP-T, Illumiscin®
  • UVA Filter – 95%

Most importantly, choose whichever sunscreen is right for you. SPF 15 is much better than SPF 0. Protect your skin!
