Curl without the added gadgets? Are fuller, longer looking lashes finally here to stay? Beneficial life saver or bin space raider? Let’s find out!

If you don’t know already, when I think of mascara, my mind obsesses over one thing: volume. If it’s not 5X bigger and more dramatic, I don’t want it. If there’s one thing I want attention to be drawn to, it’s my eyes; windows, soul and all the good stuff. Perfect accompaniment to a feline flick; emphasising a pop of colour; defining a sultry smokey eye, the options are limitless. Could this be my new go-to?

First Impressions: The packaging is fabulous. Stands out from the rest and pretty in pink. Upon opening, my eyes are fixated to the wand. It’s unique and looks like a curling wand if I ever envisioned one! The rather eye catching Hook ‘n’ Roll brush, custom-made looks dainty enough to comb through each individual lash, perfect for coating and extending the tiniest of lashes, top and bottom.

Application: On first attempt, it takes a moment to adapt to. I found myself being mindful of the optimal angle I should use to reap the full effects of this formula and the intricate silicone brush design to ensure all lashes are evenly coated. Bottom lashes are an absolute dream as the wand is versatile enough to define the most microscopic of lashes without looking like you have panda eyes! Once you get the hang of it, it makes application especially on the lower lash line, far easier.

Final Thoughts: Overall, it leaves a very natural, lengthening effect. Too natural? Potentially for me, just as I’m so used to the heavy, faux-lash effect which is my automatic go-to. To get close to that without clumping, I use two coats of this mascara (I use two coats of any mascara).

This mascara is easily buildable and I did find myself wearing less eye makeup as the more au natural look paired well with such a light but visible flutter.

Benefit roller lash mascara demonstrated on different lash types.

I can confirm it curls your lashes, I have the straightest lashes known to man, so I’d still favour my lash curlers to reinforce the stark, uplifted effect that is quite difficult for my lashes to achieve, without looking slightly pitiful. For me personally, that’s an issue I have with any mascara just due to my naturally, stubborn straight lashes.

For a no-makeup look or highlighting beauty in a natural more demure way (TikTok reference) this is your go-to. So I’ll definitely keep it in my makeup bag for lighter makeup days.

Will I repurchase or replace my regular volumising mascara? Probably not, but the benefit roller lash mascara it’s an add-on I’d happily accept if you enjoy collecting mini samples or the happy recipient of a gift!
