My 21st Birthday; Let’s Celebrate!

It’s my birthday, its my birthday! 21, a milestone birthday. So, what happened?

So, it’s the 10th of March, my 21st birthday and I feel so grown up, when I wish in a way I wasn’t! I’m sure many of us want to stay fairly young for as long as possible, and now in a few years I’ll be 30 haha! I know I’m slightly over exaggerating, but occasionally you just have very intense in-depth thoughts about life, age, past and future, you’re sometimes overcome with emotions, that it may even affect your big day. That’s exactly what happened last year.

Even though my 20th was a great birthday, the start of it wasn’t. I woke up feeling quite down and just aged. Your 20th isn’t supposed to be a milestone birthday but for me it felt huge, probably bigger than me turning 21. You’ve been a child/teenager for as long as you can remember then you’re pushed into the deep-end of being in your ’20’s’ You want the world to just stop for a second. And I felt quite a heavy burden on that huge change. I think a huge aspect of why I was feeling that way was because being a woman, and we tend to acknowledge and overanalyse our age progression. I had other thoughts going through my mind also on that birthday, quite negative thoughts, so I had a nap and knocked myself the hell out of it! The evening of that day was so much better as I had to put those troublesome thoughts of my mind. So I vowed to myself not to let my 21st be like that.

So I wake up on my 21st feeling a lot more confident than a year ago and being more self assured in myself. What better way to start of YOUR day of the year? I knew I was going to a fancy shmanzy restaurant in the evening but it was all gonna be a surprise, so for the rest of the day I just relaxed, watched a movie and ate till my heart was content!

So then I start getting ready to go to the ball – minor exaggeration or should I say a major one? Anyhoo, I thought I started early enough, but because I ordered something else to eat, I was a bit behind schedule; isn’t every girl always?. So I may have been a tad late to the restaurant reservation but trust me they weren’t packed thankfully, so we had no trouble finding a spot to sit. It was basically like a rooftop restaurant but I was inside the indoor part of the restaurant as it was quite windy and a little rainy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to sit right by the floor to ceiling glass as I’d have to sit between tables, and I like eating in as much peace as possible haha introvert I am. So that was a tiny bummer but in the panoramic lift, you saw all the astounding views London has to offer!

I had some of the most incredible food the restaurant Mezemiso has a mixture of Japanese and Lebanese food, and it’s just such a lovely atmosphere that makes you feel so suave and ahh it’s just a place and memory I’ll never forget!

Starters… (silly me forgot to take photos of the main) The dish on the left looks like an I’m a celebrity bushtucker trial! If you’ve seen the show you know which one I’m talking about hehe. But it tasted absolutely gorgeous!

Then, to finish off the night we made our way to a rooftop bar, and since I don’t drink just had some refreshing mocktails and just chilled watching the picturesque sights of London at night.

This had to be one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had, if not the best. I’ll never forget it and it was just the best day of my life (I’ll let you know in a future post why…)!

How was your 21’st birthday? I’d love to know! Why do you think it was the best day of my life? Have you had any milestone birthdays recently? Can you relate to the certain feelings I’ve had prior? Comment Below!

  1. Best wishes, Antonia! Though they come five days late, perhaps they apply in retrospect, as you savored the day of days.

Your sparkling description gives us some hint of the magic, as London’s bejeweled nighttime display clearly is something that still will make your heart flutter decades from now. Who needs liquor when such is your intoxication?

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that age is a matter of perspective, more than anything else. My grandmother, definitely not a pensive woman, once told me, “What I wouldn’t give to be 75 again.” Your twenties may seem formidable, because this is the first time you visited them. Won’t be long, though, and you’ll wonder that you ever were so young.

No worries, as a few years after that, you’ll find it hard to believe you were so young as you were at that point. And so on, and so on…

The chronological number changes constantly, but one thing that doesn’t is your determination to make the present moment glisten. Make hose memories today, giving you tomorrow’s nostalgia. Which is precisely what you’re doing, Antonia!

    1. Thankyouu so much Niki! 21 is a big birthday so it’s a bummer that lockdown has overlapped that.๐Ÿค” Depending on what interests your daughter has, have a nice little birthday indoors with a nice dinner and family games, then promise to take her to a lovely restaurant for a family meal when the lockdown’s over? Or maybe even a meal where some of her friends are invited too as she would’ve hardly seen them for a while?
Hope this helps!๐Ÿ˜ƒ Nice to meet you too and love your blog!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Š Stay safe๐Ÿ™

  5. Happy belated bday hon you are so gorgeous โฃ๏ธ I read your blog about yourself and we have a lot in common Iโ€™m also a girly girl I usually wear a lot of dresses and jeans sometimes but always heels and have only started wearing makeup everyday for the last 21/2 years now but I find eyeshadow just giving me fits and usually work it into my routine if Iโ€™m going somewhere special or out with a special person omg โฃ๏ธLooking forward to girly chats luv hope youโ€™re staying safe Stacy Anne ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

    1. Thankyouu so much Stacy Anne!
Oooh I love having lots in common! ๐Ÿ’ƒ
Ooh I’m the exact same, I’ve only just managed to start going out in ‘sneakers’, as people around me haven’t stopped going on about wearing heels all the time. But ahhh I just don’t get the hype. Okay they’re more comfortable, but I’d go with fashion over being practical any day of the week! You only live once and I wanna be glam! It’s not harming anyone else ๐Ÿ˜‚the most harm you’ll get is having to wait a little longer for me to walk in heels, but it’ll be worth it ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
Eyeshadow is a must too. On the odd occasion I’ll do makeup without eyeshadow but it’s just NOT THE SAME. It’s either makeup with eyeshadow or no makeup at all for me now. I don’t get the grey area at all. Eyeshadow completely switches up your eyes. It can give your eye that extra sparkle and can make your natural eye colour seem way more intense. You don’t even need loads of eyeshadow either to draw attention to your natural eye colour you know?
      I can see we’re gonna get on ๐Ÿ’ƒ. Sure we’re not related?๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—
