The heatwave has hit the UK, in March! Save me now! We haven’t even prepared for this…
Only last month it was Winter, and if my calculations are correct the first official day of Spring in the UK began on 20th March 2021. The UK recorded its warmest March day in 53 years on Tuesday as temperatures rose above 24°C. My mind is scrambled. Just to put British weather into context, in the height of summer, if temperatures reach 26°C that’s classified as a scorcher of a summer. If you hate heat like me, you’ll just want to sit in an ice bucket all day To make matters worse, my weather forecast says it’s meant to snow next week… That’s the British weather for you.
The majority were unprepared for anything above 12°C, so I’ve listed the top heatwave hacks to make it through to the other side of this weather glitch!
Tip 1: Stay Hydrated

Hydration is beyond important for overall health and too many of us don’t drink enough H2O! 3/4 people are dehydrated and that can affect everything from our energy levels, to putting more strain on our kidneys than we have to. We think of water as a minor factor in our everyday lives, but truthfully, it’s one of the most essential ingredients to living a full and healthy life. FYI, it can’t do your skin more harm than good!
Tip 2: Hair

You might find your hair has a mind of it’s own all of a sudden. And that’s completely normal, I don’t know one person that doesn’t suffer from that issue. Reason being, we all get drier hair than usual in higher temperatures, because the heat sucks the living soul our hair ever had. Leaving it feeling, more dry, frizzy, brittle feeling or just overall harder to control. Plus, humidity practically works hand in hand with warm temperatures. The moisture in the air can be too much! With sweaty palms it can be a task and a half to try and tame the mane, so whenever you’re in doubt, throw your hair up in a high ponytail or messy bun. Plus tying your hair back helps maintain moisture and control. Win win!
Tip 3: Sunscreen …Hehe it rhymes

Lay it on, factor 50. There’s no time to waste. Protect your skin at all costs! And make sure you remember to reapply throughout the day – generally every two hours. You’ll still get the glowing tan, without looking like a lobster!
Tip 4: Buy a Fan

There’s nothing like using your stove on a boiling day. It makes your home 10x warmer! Or those city commutes… The underground takes no prisoners, especially in heatwaves like these. Be prepared, get a handheld fan and one to plug in at home. If only we had air-con in the UK eh? It’s just not the norm here, but I think soon enough with heatwaves getting worse, more households will be getting them installed!
Tip 5: Have a Dozen Cold Showers

Cold showers really help when you’re feeling hot or sticky as that’s the sensation I hate! It makes you feel much better, AND NOT STICKY. Maybe don’t use shower gel every time if you’re having cold showers multiple times a day as it’ll probably aggravate your skin. That’s the last thing we need right now!
Last but not least, just overindulge in ice cream. For health reasons of course… it helps cool you down. Anyone that says different, is lying!

Great tips, Antonia, and even better graphics!
While I don’t mind the summer-like temps, particularly after a snowy and seemingly-unending winter, the cold weather coming next always disappoints. Not only for the obvious reasons, but because the warm weather encourages the flowers, trees and other things yearning for a thaw, then the cold weather returns to shake their enthusiasm. Or worse.
Anyway, stay cool, Antonia, in more ways than one! 🍧

Exactly! It makes the heatwave pointless! You know there’s a heatwave in Britain when all the ice cream and ice is out of stock!😂😂 so predictable!
